Job summary

HCA will work collaboratively with the practices within Malvern Town PCN. Working under the supervision and closely with the clinical team and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision of patient care in the community and within Malvern care homes.

All applicants must hold a full driving license.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomy

Influenza and B12 injections

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses.

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment.

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care

interventions

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.

Carry out INR monitoring.

Carry out ECGs for patients as per GP and Nurse instructions.

24 hours and home BP set-up.

Wound check & suture removal

Diabetic foot checks

NHS Health checks

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good general standard of education

  • Relevant Qualification

  • All applicants must hold a full driving license

  • Venepuncture

  • NHS Health check

  • New patients Health check

  • ECG

  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring

  • Wound care and dressings

  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Telecommunication skills (clear, polite telephone manner)

  • Strong IT skills

  • Ability to respond to changing needs, pressures and demands and prioritise accordingly

  • Evidence of working within a team environment

  • Maintaining boundaries and ensuring clarity and understanding of the role

  • Ability to self-manage and be creative in your approach to problem solving

  • Ability and confidence to work on own initiative

  • Use of IT systems including EMIS, Care Notes, Microsoft office, email and database systems (external and internal)

Experience

Essential

  • Working within a social care/health or related environment in a delivery or front face role

  • Working with people who are vulnerable or face disadvantage

  • Working in an empathetic and empowering way

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a Primary Care environment
